Google launches new chrome browser
September 2nd, 2008 by Jeff Carter

This is a digression from my usual posting but I cannot help carried away by the excitement.

Google has announced that it is going to launch a new browser called chrome in more than 100 countries on sept 2, i.e. today.

This news was released on Google’s official blog.

Here are some screenshots of the new browser.

Google Chrome Browser

Apparently it is an open source browser with components from apple’s webkit and mozilla’s firefox with some new features.

Knowing google it will be short on eye candy and more on functionality. There is a new java engine and google says it is trying to remove the limitations imposed by other browsers.

Some features are:

You’ll be able to download it sometime today (Tuesday) for Windows OS only.

Google said Chrome will be a more sophisticated Web browser better suited for displaying the dynamic and interactive content blossoming on the Web as people migrate from television, radio and newspapers.

Includes a brand new JavaScript virtual machine called V8.

Tabs will appear above the windows.

Location bar will support auto-complete functions and suggests web pages you’ve previously visited as well as suggested sites you haven’t much like related links in firefox, I think.

Upon launch, you’ll see an Opera-like speed dial with bookmarks and thumbnails for up to web sites

There will be a privacy mode that allows you to surf without saving any personal history

The browser will constantly download up to date information about web sites with malicious code

Chrome will utilize Google Gears to allow you to save many web sites and applications for offline use.
